March Project & Supplies

Thanks to Brother Club for a fun Easter idea.  Brenda digitized a precious cut-out Bunny for use on a napkin, table runner, little girl’s dress, or wherever your imagination leads you.  To stitch the bunny, we’ll use cutwork and appliqué techniques.  For the cutwork technique, we’ll stitch an outline of the bunny’s head and body on our chosen fabric, then cut away the fabric from the INSIDE of the outline, then replace that area with lace.  We’ll use the appliqué technique for the bunny’s feet.   The below picture will give you an idea of the finished lace.  The sample I saw at the Brother club was white stitching on a soft pastel plaid cotton napkin, the eyes were baby blue, the nose and mouth soft pink, whiskers light gray and it was adorable.  Scroll below the picture to see your supply list if you’d like to stitch the bunny in class.

Supplies to bring:

-         Embroidery machine with embroidery arm
-         4 x 4 standard hoop
-     "R" Embroidery Foot or Sensor Q Foot
-         Scissors (you’ll trim appliqué, so small pointed shears or appliqué scissors will help)
-         Needlesfor the type fabric you are bringing
-         Bobbins
Fabric:
 -  Napkin or fabric of your choice.  (or just bring a 6x6 fabric square to practice the technique.)
 -  Small (2” x 4”) piece of fabric - your choice.  This will be used for Bunny's feet.
You might consider cotton for best results.

Embroidery Thread - Colors of your choice
1. Bunny Body - will also a need bobbin wound with this color (suggest white)
2. Bunny Whiskers (suggest light gray)
3. Bunny Nose and Mouth (suggest pastel pink)
4. Bunny Eyes (suggest pastel blue or pink)

Stabilizers & Adhesives:
-          Fabric type wash away stabilizer (i.e.:  Aqua Magic)
You will need TWO layers under your fabric in the 4 x 4 hoop

Design Transfer Device:
-          USB Stick or blank floppy to get the design, depending on your machine.

I know this is VERY late and risks not making it to some of you in time……… BUT ----

Donna’s 4-D mini-software class is a bread basket liner.  I stitched it out today and it is a beauty.  Like the bunny, it incorporates the CUTWORK technique and takes less time to stitch than the bunny.  Since stitch time is important to allow you to finish in class, maybe this is the project of choice for class time stitching?  You’ll go home with both designs, so bring your floppy or stick.

If you plan to stitch in class ------- The supply list is the same as for the bunny except:

-       20x20 Fabric square recommended – 18x18 could work if you use a smaller bread basket

-       Either 5”x7” hoop or 150 x150 Do All Quilter’s Hoop

See you Thursday !!

Trudy
