Hi Viking Club Friends!

We’re in a five Thursday month.  This pushes our club date back one week.

Club date is JULY 22 !!  Mark your calendar !!

Afternoon Club:  1P-3P, Evening Club:  4:30P

Our project for July will begin a hands on exploration of various stitches and techniques plus a little machine embroidery.  We’ll use some cool feet and try some things a bit out of the ordinary.   We’ll spend several club meetings on this, but it’s the type of project that won’t fall apart if you can’t make it to all the club meetings.  When we’re done, you’ll have sufficient “blocks” to assemble a variety of cool things.  Let your imagination be your guide.  Our focus will be to complete a great sewing machine cover with our blocks (see the Janome sample on the wall in the club room) – but you can certainly use your blocks for other things if you don’t want or need a sewing machine cover !!  I can see these blocks making a great tote bag, wall quilt, decorative pillow(s), album cover, etc, etc.

For July, we’ll stitch various decorative stitches.  We’ll use the twin needle and mirror feature on our machines.

Fabric/Thread/Feet notes:  The sample we will follow uses KONA Muslin.  It has a bit more bulk to it than the typical no-name muslin out there.  Stitches on the sample are in a neutral shade to compliment the muslin (I’d call it taupe?), however, you can use any color thread you like or even multiple colors.  The end result will be just as lovely.  For the full project, you will need about 1 ½  to 2 yards of muslin for blocks, binding and lining.  For July, plan to have at least 4 or 5 10’x10” blocks cut from the muslin.  Some decorative stitches require you use feet other than A or B.  You might consider bringing your “feet” box for variety at your fingertips.   Candlewick stitch is a good example.

Supply List:
Viking Machine – you’ll be using the built in decorative stitches – no embroidery planned for July
Bobbins
Sewing Thread for top and bobbin
Embroidery Thread, 40wt, rayon or poly,  in colors of your choice to compliment muslin
Embroidery Bobbin thread
Feet A and B
Twin Needle
Machine sewing Needles
4 or 5 10”x0” squares of Muslin (Kona recommended)
Iron on Interfacing (enough for blocks)
Tear away stabilizer, medium wt. (most of the decorative stitches do better with stabilizer under your fabric)

I’m in the process of testing various stitches this week.  If I find that a particular “foot” will assist us in a spectacular result, I’ll amend the supply list before club date.  Stay tuned !!

I look forward to seeing you July 22 !!  If you haven’t already, plan to spend a few minutes to vote on the Christmas in July ornaments while you’re at the store!
Good sewing,

Trudy Hutchinson
