Hi Quilt Club Members,

Happy New Year and what a project we have for this year.  Our first meeting of 2012 is Thursday, January 26th  either 1 PM to 3 PM or 6 PM to 8 PM.  No early sew-in meeting this month.  We will discuss that at our meeting.

Did everyone get the designs for the 4 panels ( sent 12/27),  The fabric quantities for larger pieces  ( sent 12/28) and earlier pictures of each of the pieced blocks ( sent 12/15)?   Let me know if you didn't or did and can't find them and I'll send them out again.

I have a new toy, a free program that converts files to .PDF.  Virtually everyone should be able to open this file.  Let me know about problems.  I am also sending them as written in my  Microsoft WORD 2003 as usual.

Attached is a rendering of the "Spring Boots" panel and the adgenda for the January meeting.

Finally it's done and  the panels for next year are attached here as .jpgs files.  Look beyond some of the roughness of the drawings, the patterns you receive for the appliqué will be more polished and there will be options for adding details.  Those techniques will be part of the monthly Club demo.

How you decide to use your panels will be your choice.  I have included some basic yardages for borders, but you may want to set the panels very differently for your version of the quilt.  If you choose to make a scrappy border you will have plenty of fabric if you get 1/4 yd. or fat quarters of all the fabrics except the skies and the grasses.

Yardages:  each panel of the wallhanging / quilt is 18" wide and 24" long

Spring    1/2 yd for the sky
               3/8 yd for the grass
A 3" border all the way around would be 1/2 yd. of one fabric or 7/8 yd if you aren't going to piece the borders

Summer  3/8 yd for the sky
               1/2 yd for the grass
A 3" border all the way around would be 1/2 yd. of one fabric or 7/8 yd if you aren't going to piece the borders

Fall         3/8 yd for the sky
               3//8 yd for the grass
A 3" border all the way around would be 1/2 yd. of one fabric or 7/8 yd if you aren't going to piece the borders

Winter   5/8 yd for the sky
A 3" border all the way around would be 1/2 yd. of one fabric or 7/8 yd if you aren't going to piece the borders
For the wind 1 pc 24" long by WOF.

All the other pieces of fabric you will need for the quilt are 1/8 yd or less.
Backings for each panel must be 24 1/2" wide x 30 1/2",  Add these figures together if you are joining the panels.
Binding  1/2 yd is plenty for each panel.

I have a book that instantly figures out the yardages for the bindings and the backings,  It is The Quilter's Pocket Reference by Peggy Scholley.  No quilter should be with out it and its under $10.00.

Talk to me about your vision for this quilt and I will help you with yardages.  Remember the EQ rendition is for inspiration not necessary to copy.

I personally am putting mine together as a Wallhanging to hang in our stairwell.  I am going to stack the panels 2 on top of 2.

Let me know if you want to plan a group shopping date.  I have a couple of commitments from today until club meeting, but not that many.  Deb, the owner of Quilter's Crossing in Tomball, will extend any club member a discount on your fabric if you show her this e-mail or print outs of the panels and your member card.  She will understand that your memberships are good until Club meeting on January 27th.
